New Mexico has started the phased launch of its New Mexico Seed-to-Sale System, or NMS2S, replacing BioTrack as the mandatory tracking platform for licensed cannabis businesses. Producers, manufacturers and other non-retail licensees received access to migrated inventory on August 31, while retailer inventory migration began at 12:01 a.m. MDT on September 1.
Retailers must continue processing sales through BioTrack during the transition. On September 2, they are scheduled to receive access to NMS2S and will need to adjust inventory in the new platform to account for sales recorded in BioTrack after the migration snapshot. BioTrack is scheduled to shut down at 12:01 a.m. MDT on September 4, after which all regulated cannabis activity must be recorded through NMS2S.
The state says the free platform will provide clearer separation between medical and adult-use products, improve courier tracking and align workflows more closely with New Mexico’s regulations.

Murder Charges Filed After Deadly Oklahoma Cannabis-Facility Explosion
An Oklahoma man has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder following an August 27 explosion at a marijuana extraction facility in Sand Springs that killed two people. Ryan Bassham turned himself in on August 30 in connection with the blast at Solos Extract Co.; the charges remain allegations, and he has not been convicted.
According to court records reviewed by the Associated Press, the facility was seeking updated marijuana licensing and narcotics registration. A fire marshal had previously identified deficiencies involving its extraction equipment, and authorities reported finding liquid propane and other hazardous materials at the facility after the explosion.
The investigation involves state and local authorities as well as federal agencies. Officials are examining the facility’s licensing status, equipment and handling of materials used in cannabis extraction.

NBCUniversal and U-NEXT Forge Broad Streaming Partnership in Japan
U-NEXT announced a comprehensive strategic partnership with NBCUniversal that will make it the exclusive Japanese platform for Universal+, NBCUniversal’s international streaming brand. The phased launch is scheduled to begin in October 2026 with films, television series and library programming from NBCUniversal.
The agreement extends beyond conventional content licensing. The companies plan to coordinate theatrical and streaming promotion, develop initiatives connected to Universal Studios Japan, explore live and event programming, and support international distribution of Japanese content. Newly released films and major NBCUniversal television productions are expected to join the service beginning in spring 2027.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
