Cannabis business developments lead the news cycle, with Curaleaf escalating its pursuit of Aurora Cannabis and Endovia advancing an investigational CBD-THC medicine through a federal veterinary pathway. In entertainment, Paramount has outlined the executive power structure for the company expected to emerge from its Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition.
Curaleaf Raises Hostile Aurora Cannabis Offer by 25%
Curaleaf Holdings announced an enhanced offer for Aurora Cannabis that values the target at an implied US$5 per share, up 25% from its initial US$4 proposal. The revised consideration consists of 0.4013 Curaleaf shares and US$1 in cash for each Aurora share, with the maximum consideration cap increasing to US$6 per share.
Curaleaf said it developed the proposal using public information because Aurora has not provided access to due diligence. It also plans to extend the offer’s expiration from December 1 to December 4 and include pro forma financial statements in its amended bid materials.
Aurora responded that Curaleaf had not yet filed a formal revised bid and advised shareholders to take no action while an independent special committee evaluates the proposal. Aurora said its board will issue a recommendation after reviewing the completed materials.
Why It Matters: Analysis: The higher offer intensifies one of the cannabis industry’s most consequential takeover contests and tests whether Aurora shareholders will prioritize a near-term premium or management’s standalone international medical-cannabis strategy. A successful combination would also accelerate consolidation among large North American operators seeking greater geographic reach and lower capital costs.

Cannabinoid Drug Program Gains Access to FDA Conditional-Approval Pathway
Endovia Health Sciences and Lupvindol BioSciences announced that the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine determined that the proposed use of CannEpil qualifies as a minor use under the Minor Use and Minor Species program. CannEpil is an investigational oral formulation containing CBD and THC that is being developed to control pain associated with bone cancer in dogs.
The determination makes the proposed indication eligible to pursue conditional approval, which requires applicable safety and manufacturing standards and a reasonable expectation of effectiveness. Endovia and Lupvindol are scheduled to meet with the FDA on November 19 to discuss development studies, manufacturing requirements and regulatory submissions.
The companies are also seeking U.S. manufacturing capacity to support the program and a possible 2027 veterinary launch. CannEpil has not received conditional or full FDA approval, and any launch remains dependent on regulatory review and successful completion of the required development work.
Why It Matters: Analysis: The milestone illustrates how cannabinoid companies are pursuing conventional federal drug-development channels rather than relying solely on state cannabis markets or loosely regulated wellness products. Success could provide a commercially meaningful test case for federally regulated CBD-THC medicines, although substantial clinical, manufacturing and financing risks remain.

Paramount Names Leadership Team for Combined Skydance Entertainment Giant
Paramount Skydance Chairman and CEO David Ellison and Co-CEO Ynon Kreiz announced the leadership team expected to run the company following completion of Paramount’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The combined business will be named Skydance, with Ellison focused on long-term strategy, creative direction, technology and capital allocation while Kreiz manages daily operations and integration.
Casey Bloys is expected to oversee original programming and strategy for HBO Max and Paramount+ as co-chair and chief content officer of the direct-to-consumer division. George Cheeks will co-lead a television portfolio spanning Warner Bros. Television Studios, CBS Studios, Paramount Television Studios, CBS, sports operations, local stations and more than 50 U.S. cable networks.
The announced structure also retains James Gunn and Peter Safran as co-chairmen of DC Studios, while Mark Thompson and Bari Weiss will lead CNN and CBS News, respectively. Paramount said a broader executive leadership roster will be released after the transaction closes.
Why It Matters: Analysis: The appointments provide the clearest view yet of how Paramount intends to integrate major streaming services, studios, newsrooms and television networks after the acquisition. The structure places substantial authority over streaming content under Bloys while preserving separate leadership for the combined company’s major news brands.
